Robert Loggia was born in Staten Island, New York City, New York, on January 3, 1930. He was of Sicilian and Italian descent. Biagio Loggia, a shoemaker, was his father and Elena Blandino, a housewife, was his mother. Information about his siblings is unclear.

After graduating from New Dorp High School in New York City, he enrolled at Wagner College. Robert then decided to pursue a journalism degree at the University of Missouri. Later, he shifted his emphasis to theater and enrolled at Illinois’ Northwestern University.
