Penelope Mary Mordaunt, also known as Penny Mordaunt, is a well-known member of the British Conservative Party. She has been Portsmouth North MP since 2010 and Secretary of State for the Department of International Trade since September 2021. Since February 2020 she has also served as Paymaster General. She has previously held the posts of Defense Secretary in 2019 and Secretary for International Development in Theresa May’s cabinet from 2017 to 2019. She has also held positions as communications specialist for the Freight Transport Association and, for a short period in 2000, head of foreign press for George W. Bush’s presidential campaign.

From 2001 to 2003 she served as the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Director of Communications. She replaced Gavin Williamson as Defense Secretary in May 2019 and is now the only female MP serving in the Royal Naval Reserve. In February 2020, Penny returned to Government service, taking Oliver Dowden’s place as Paymaster General in the Cabinet Office. On 16 December 2021, she was also appointed Prime Minister by the Department of International Trade. Johnson announced her candidacy for the position of leader of the Conservative Party and subsequently Prime Minister in July 2022 after she resigned from that post.

Early Years: What is the real name of Penny Mordaunt?

The first time Penny Mordaunt opened her eyes was on March 4, 1973 in Torquay, Devon, England. She was born into a Christian family and was given the name Penelope Mary Mordaunt at birth. She is of mixed race and ethnic heritage and holds British nationality. Penny turned 49 this year, in 2022, and according to her date of birth, her star sign is Pisces. Her race is therefore white. Her mother, Jennifer (née Snowden), is related to Philip Snowden, the first Labor Chancellor of the Exchequer, while her father, John Mordaunt, was born at Hilsea Barracks and served in the Parachute Regiment before retraining as a teacher.

In November 2003, Penny Mordaunt was elected to represent the Conservative Party in Portsmouth North for the 2005 general election. Despite achieving a 5.5% swing in the Conservative Party’s favour, she was defeated by Sarah McCarthy-Fry of Labour. Party with 1,139 votes. After the 2005 election, she served as chief of staff for David Willetts’ failed bid for the presidency.

She was re-elected in January 2006 to stand for Portsmouth North in the 2010 general election, winning the seat with a majority of 7,289 after Labour’s support fell to 8.6%. At the parliamentary elections in 2015 and 2017, she was re-elected. She served on the Public Bill Committee for the Defense Reform Act of 2014 and was only the second woman to propose the Loyal Address in response to the Queen’s Speech from the Throne during Elizabeth II’s reign. Her proposal referred to Tweedsmuir’s remarks about wanting more women in Parliament. She can also be seen in 2014 in the reality TV show “Splash!”

On 9 November 2017, Penny was appointed Secretary of State for International Development. In April 2018, she was appointed Minister for Women’s and Equal Rights. In addition, she was appointed the first ever female Defense Secretary on May 1 this year, but left the government on July 24 after Boris Johnson was elected Prime Minister.

Following Oliver Dowden’s departure from the government in February 2020, Penny returned to it as Paymaster General for the Cabinet Office. She served as the UK’s deputy co-chair of the Joint Committee on the EU Withdrawal Agreement. In addition, she was appointed Secretary of State for Trade following the UK Cabinet reshuffle in 2021. Johnson announced her candidacy for the position of Conservative Party Leader and subsequently Prime Minister in July 2022 after she resigned from this position.
