A next generation Nintendo Switch could be released in 2024, according to a new report. A performance-enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch Pro has long been rumoured, with various patents hinting at some of the features it could include, such as updated Joy-Cons, but this is the first time a release window has been suggested.

As seen by Reddit user anirakdreama Nikkei article covering the Nintendo Switch’s sales figures has stated that the console’s successor is not expected until the second half of 2024, with Nintendo reportedly in talks with suppliers about a production system for the new console. If true, it would mean that the Nintendo Switch era – which turns six this year – would be close to surpassing the NES era as the longest console generation for Nintendo, with the latter in production for a full decade between 1985 and 1995 .
