These roles vary between DPS, whether focused on single targets or specialists in AoEs, as well as healers, shields and supports. The game has a total of seven paths that characters follow, corresponding to traditional RPG roles. The most important tip for building teams Honkai: Star Rail is to consider variation. Building a team composed of four The Destruction characters, i.e. regular DPS heroes, can work well during the first few hours of gameplay, but players will find themselves lacking in HP or overall protection as the game progresses.

If players build a team of The Abundance characters, they will lack damage output. As such, a varied team with DPS, supports and healers or shielders is the best possible solution.

For players who are used to Genshin impacts team comps, this should be easier to follow. An ideal formation to consider when building a team Honkai: Star Rail have two DPS – preferably of separate paths and elements – a support character for party buffs or enemy debuff and a healer or a shielder.

This team composition may vary depending on character availability and player preference.

Why and how team compositions should be varied in Honkai: Star Rail

Building a team Honkai: Star Rail having two DPS ensures two strong sources of damage against opponents. On top of that, with varying paths and elements, these characters can cover multiple enemy weaknesses. For example, if players use a The Destruction character and a The Erudtion hero, they can use both single-target and group AoE attacks. With different elements, they can also apply Weakness Break to multiple opponents.

Having a support character to buff the team or mitigate enemies is also essential, as this can significantly turn the tide of a match. They will also be another source of damage and able to inflict Weakness Break if their Element matches any of the opponents weaknesses.

Finally, a healer or a shield is absolutely necessary when building a team Honkai: Star Rail. This is because in tougher battles it is almost impossible to one-shot enemies and therefore not get hit by their attacks. Preventing damage from hitting your party members or healing them through that damage is essential if players want to continue progressing through the game.

Another viable strategy is to not use a support buffer or debuff and use both a healer and a shielder. This is a tactic that works when building a team Honkai: Star Rail and is a great way to ensure the team stays alive. The downside is that battles can take longer to finish as the strategic presence of a support has been declined for extra protection. Nevertheless, players who fight tougher enemies may have a solution with this team comp.
