Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can challenge Gym Leader Katy to a rematch after the game, but the Bug-type specialist has improved her fighting style with significantly stronger Pokémon, new team members, and new moves since her first battle with gym challengers. While Cortondo Gym is among the first gyms available to new trainers, Katy isn’t holding back during her rematch with Paldea’s newest Champion. Katy plays to the greatest strengths of her Bug-type partners and is likely to surprise players with some new strategies. To beat her, trainers must use the most effective moves and monsters.
To kick off Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s after the game, players can rematch each of the eight gym leaders in the Paldea region. While this is nothing new for the franchise, challenging gymnastics leaders to a rematch by giving the region’s latest Champion an opportunity to show their team’s true strength serves the story well. Tasked with conducting these so-called “gym inspections” by the Pokémon League’s top champion, Geeta, the biggest incentive for trainers to defeat each gym leader once again is to subsequently enter the Academy Ace Tournament. Players must rematch all eight gyms to enter and win, starting with Gym Leader Katy.
Katy’s team and weaknesses
Voted as the easiest gym leader in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Katy is sure to take advantage of the opportunity to redeem herself in a rematch at the Cortondo Gym, so trainers should come prepared to battle a new and improved team of Bug-types, including two additional monsters that the Gym Leader didn’t use in her initial training match . Katy’s team, consisting of Lokix, Forretress, Heracross, Spidops, and Ursaring, is capable of both packing punches and stalling. Leading with Lokix, the gym leader will likely start strong with Sucker Punch, a priority Dark-type move with a base power of 70. In addition, she is expected to spam the move Curse with Forretress, which raises the attack and defense stats of the very high defensive Bug/Steel types on top of its robust ability.

How to beat Gym Leader Katy again
The best Fire-type Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet will pack the most heat in this rematch against Gym Leader Katy, especially as she battles her fortress. However, the Bug-type specialist will also have a hard time standing up against Flying- and Rock-type monsters, leaving players with many options to take out their team. With effective type coverage, it can be easy for many trainers to defeat Katy. While challengers should keep in mind that Katy’s ace Pokémon, Ursaring, is a traditional Normal-type monster with a Bug Tera type, they should be prepared to withstand powerful counterattacks like High Horsepower and Play Rough.
In addition to practicing type advantages, players can implement combat strategies to knock out Katy’s speedy Lokix and defensive Forretress. For example, to bypass Lokix’s Sucker Punch while benefiting their team, trainers can use a status move like Agility or Nasty Plot to raise their own Pokémon’s respective speed and special attack stats. Players can find Nasty Plot TM in Scarlet & Violet, which is a great move to set up a special attacker to take out Katy’s Lokix first and her hard fortress later. Using smart strategies like this will help trainers beat Gym Leader Katy in a rematch, bringing them one step closer to participating in the Academy Ace tournament in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
