Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Bruce Horak shares his whimsical fan art of his character, the late Lt. Hemmer and Gorn. Hemmer was chief engineer of the USS Enterprise in Strange New Worlds season 1. The blind Aenar sacrificed himself heroically to save his crew when he was infected by baby Gorn in Strange New Worlds season 1, episode 9, “All Who Wander.”
On his Instagram, Bruce Horak posted his own fan art of Hemmer with Gorn. Horak, who is a very talented artist, has created a couple of odes to Hemmer and his alien reptilian killers. But in Bruce’s renderings, Gorn and Hemmer have become friends. Horak’s wistful art also evokes how Aenar is absent from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2. Check out the Instagram posts below:
Will Hemmer (and Bruce Horak) Return in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2?
IN Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, Captain Christopher Pike’s (Anson Mount) Starship Enterprise has a new chief engineer, Commander Pelia (Carol Kane). Pelia, an eccentric and extremely long-lived lanthanite, was a Starfleet Academy instructor who taught Hemmer technique. However, Strange New Worlds‘ executive producer Henry Alonso Myers has hinted that Bruce Horak will return as a new character in season 2, even though Hemmer is dead. Meanwhile, Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), who was Hemmer’s protégé, is still coping with the loss of the wise Aenar in Strange New Worlds season 2.
Lieutenant Hemmer’s popularity was one of Strange New Worlds season 1’s big surprises. Hemmer, one of the Star Trek prequels’ original characters, was always doomed to die to establish stakes in a series stacked with legacy characters known to survive in Star Trek: The Original Series. But no one quite expected that Hemmer would become as popular as he was, and his heroic death was an of Strange New Worlds season 1’s most heartbreaking moments. Hemmer lives on lovingly in Bruce Horak’s heart, and his endearing artwork gives Hemmer and the Gorn an offbeat but touching bond as they both watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2.
