Prominent lawyer Zafaryab Jilani has passed away. On Wednesday, the senior advocate and administrator of AIMPLB passed away. He died after a long illness.
Jilani expired in a hospital in Lucknow. The lawyer’s son informed the media about his father’s passing. Jilani’s son revealed that his father died at a local hospital after a long battle with illness.

Zafaryab Jilani’s Cause of Death and Obituary
Senior Advisor Zafaryab Jilani died at a local hospital on May 17, 2023 after a long battle with an illness. Najam Zafaryab, son of All India Muslim Personal Law Board secretary, confirmed the news to PTI. According to Najam, his father died at 11:50 a.m. after a long illness. The grieving son also revealed that the eminent lawyer’s last rites would be performed on Wednesday evening at the Aishbagh graveyard in Lucknow.
Jilani has been a topic of discussion for the past three decades. He did not participate in politics. Zafaryab Jilani is best known for his persistent advocacy of the Muslim side in the Ayodhya dispute. As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the late lawyer was appointed chairman of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali is among the celebrities who have expressed grief over Jilani’s demise. Zafaryab Jilani, according to a senior cleric, contested the Babri Masjid case in several tribunals and served as the convener of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Zafaryab was also the secretary of several educational institutions. Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali added: “I pray to Allah that He forgives him and gives courage and strength to the people he has left behind.”
In the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case, he remained a central figure. As coordinator of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, senior advocate Jilani argued before the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. He had earlier served as the Additional Chief Justice of Uttar Pradesh.

Najam Zafaryab, son of Zafaryab Jilani, stated that his father died after a long illness. Zafaryab Jilani, secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in May 2021 and was confined to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow. The family of the senior lawyer revealed that he was rushed to the hospital after slipping and falling. Part of his time was spent in the hospital.
“His treatment has started and doctors say his condition is stable so far,” he added. They have indicated that he may need surgery but he is currently stable,” the lawyer’s nephew told the Indian Express.
Although the lawyer’s cause of death is not a cerebral hemorrhage, his health appears to have deteriorated after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in 2021.
